The Green Compass Scheme has been operating throughout the UK since 2015, helping businesses to manage waste sustainably. The company currently provides the only means of gaining UKAS accredited certification to the PAS 402:2013 standard.
In March 2024, it announced the appointment of an investment consortium of major shareholders and private investors from across the consultancy, construction and resource management industries.
Construction Waste Portal Limited, Encore Environment Limited, Go Green Limited, Harmony Environmental Limited, Powerday PLC, United Resource Operators Consortium Limited, and Williams a Williams Cyf have all been named as shareholders alongside private investors John Logan, Director and Founder of the Construction Waste Portal and Jennifer Watts, CEO at UROC.
The consortium of shareholders was individually chosen on merit and strength of capability, following recommendations from new investor, John Logan and the Construction Waste Portal.
Together, the shareholders have industry-leading experience across consultancy, construction, or resource management and will be key to delivering The Green Compass Scheme’s future plans. This will include a significant review of PAS 402 and the advancement of a new website.
Paul Jennings, Managing Director for Green Compass, said:
"The investment presents a huge opportunity and with the active support of the new shareholders, we are confident that PAS 402 will gain the increased recognition that it merits, and in a very short time will become the leading standard by which the resource management industry is measured."
John Logan added:
"Through discussions with Paul around consortium investment, these seven prospective partners immediately came to mind as they have all played significant roles in the expansion of PAS 402 within the sector."
He continued, "I’m delighted that our combined investment and expertise will be able to further support the great work that the Green Compass Scheme is already doing within the waste management sector."
The PAS 402:2013 standard is being widely accepted as the pinnacle of data validation and performance certification in the resource management sector. In my work with the Construction Waste Portal and as a private investor, it is a privilege to be part of such a visionary group of people who are determined to change the resource management landscape for good, and make a real difference.”
As a performance standard, PAS 402 is the only waste management-specific standard that requires resource management companies to publish the following:
a publicly available, verified annual report, specific to waste handling activities on site
externally verified waste recycling and recovery data
External auditing and verification confirms that:
waste data reporting is transparent and accurate
site activities are as described and compliant with health, safety, environment and quality requirements for the waste industry
client/customer relationships promote good waste management
Construction Waste Portal recommends the use of the PAS 402 waste management standard as industry-leading best practice.
SCAPE also recommends the use of PAS 402, as part of their Recommended Environmental Standards for public sector projects, used and trusted by hundreds of public sector clients across the UK.
